The Andromeda Galaxy: Our Next Door Neighbor

Essential Questions:
When was the andromeda galaxy discovered for the first time? By who? What did he thought it was?
When and who figured out that the Andromeda was a galaxy?
Where does the name of the galaxy comes from?
What do astronomers predict will happen to Andromeda in 5 billion years?
What's one fact you find interesting about the Andromeda galaxy?

The Theory of Plate Tectonics

Plate tectonics are crust that breaks  into different sections that move on top of the liquid mantle Because of convection currents, movement of magma that makes the crust as it move itself. Mountains, Rift Valley, and subduction zone are evidence of the theory of plate tectonic.
Mountains are evidence of plate tectonic because they are created from convergent boundary. Convergent boundary is when the plates move toward each other on top of the mantle. Mountains are created because the crusts are continental.
Rift Valley is the second evidence that the theory of plate tectonic is true. Rift Valleys are created from divergent boundary. Divergent boundaries move away from each other. A Rift Valley is created also because the crust are continental plates.
Subduction zones are the third evidence that the theory of plate tectonics is accurate. Subduction zones are created from convergent boundary like mountains. However, they are made from a continental and oceanic crust unlike the mountains. Trenches and volcanoes are created because of subduction zones.
Although some people may still not believe in the theory of plate tectonic, there are many more evidence that supports it like earthquakes, mid-ocean ridges and tsunamis.

What I enjoy the most about doing this project was the prediction map because after learning about how earthquake, rift valley or tsunamis happen it was fun doing exercises where we had to identify them. The most challenging part of this project was creating a song  about what we were learning, it wasn't as simple as I thought it was going to be. from doing this project I learned how to make a video from scratch with pictures and music without having to film it with a camera. I don't think there's anything i could have done to improve any of my work because i tried my best. I wouldn't change anything about this project.

Earth is created of 4 main parts, the inner core, the outer core, the mantle and the lithosphere. The mantle is made out of liquid rocks that moves in a circle under the lithosphere. As it moves however, it also moves the crust on top of it, the lithosphere. There is three different way the plates can move,it falls into divergent boundary, convergent boundary and transform boundary. A divergent boundary is when the plates moves away from each other. It creates a mid-ocean ridge or rift valley depending on the type of crust, continental or oceanic. A convergent boundary is created when two plates moves toward each other. It creates a mountain, trench or volcano. A transform boundary is when two plates move in opposite direction. It creates an earthquake or a tsunami.

Massive Movement Project

Heliocentric vs. Geocentric Models

Vocabulary
Astronomy: the study of the universe
Heliocentric: sun center
Geocentric: earth center
Ptolemy: Came up with the theory that earth was the center of the universe.
Copernicus: proposed that the sun was the center of the universe
Galileo: concluded that the sun was the center of the universe
Revolution: when earth move in an orbit around the sun.

Translation in French: Astronomy - Astonomie
                                 Heliocentric - Héliocentrique
                                 Geocentric - Geocentrique
                                 Revolution -Révolution

Summary
A long time ago before the Scientific Revolution, people used the bible or theory from famous philosophers to conclude their hypotheses. In regards to the universe, a philosopher named Ptolemy suggested that the earth was it's center. This theory is called the Geocentric Model, Geo meaning earth and centric meaning center. Years after Ptolemy's hypothesis, another philosopher named Copernicus proposed that the sun was the center of the universe. Galileo concluded Copernicus theory of the earth moving around the sun. This is called revolution when earth moves in an orbit around the sun. Copernicus and Galileo's theory are known as the Heliocentric Model. Helio meaning sun and centric meaning center. This kid is why astronomy is important, the study of the universe, it permits us to conclude more reliable hypothesis and to know better about the world we live in.

Critical Thinking Question: How is Earth Affected by Movement?
Earth's movement around the sun (revolution) causes us to have seasons. Additionally, the fact that earth is tilted causes a part of it to receive direct, indirect or the same amount of sunlight depending on where it's situated around the sun. The different seasons are winter, spring, summer, and fall. Earth's movement (rotation) also causes us to have day and night. Finally, the earth and the moon movements cause us to have tides.  The moon's  gravity causes the ocean to bulge away from the earth. The rotation of the earth along with the moon's gravity abilities causes ocean tides to change. We have higher and lower tides in a day.

Reflection
When doing this project, I enjoyed making models while listening to music. However, every task was not as much fun to deal with. What I found the most challenging was putting the video together with the best clips of the ones we captured. From doing this project, I learn how to put together video parts to make one film in Imovie. One thing I could have done to improve my work is making the models we were using much smaller therefore they would have been easier to fit in the camera screen. As a result, the movie would have come out much better.
